Even if a customer with a Shop Pay account completes the account deletion process via Delete Me, we have observed cases where they are still able to log in and make purchases using a masked email address linked to their Shop Pay account.
Note
- In addition to deletion on Shopify via Delete Me, customers must delete their own Shop Pay account separately.
- Only customers who own a Shop Pay account can modify or delete it themselves.
- Merchants and Shopify apps do not have access to modify or delete Shop Pay accounts or their data at the API level.
Recommended Settings
Due to the reasons mentioned above, it is not possible for merchants or the Delete Me app to modify or delete data related to a customer's Shop Pay account.
We recommend updating the message displayed in the storefront popup when a customer clicks the "Delete Account" button, to notify customers using Shop Pay appropriately.
How to Setup
- Go to Shopify > Online Store > Themes > Customize.
- Click the ⚙️ icon > Theme Settings > Delete Me > Confirmation Message to edit the message.
You can customize the content of the message.
For example, we recommend using the following:
“Are you sure you want to delete your account? If you use Shop Pay, please note that you may still be able to log in or register again via your Shop Pay account.” - After editing the message, click Save. The setup is now complete.
